Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
2019 Potential Cuts: Running Back – Over The Cap
LeSean McCoy, Bills. Cap Saved: $6.43M; Cash Saved: $6.43M; Dead Money: $2.63M. McCoy fell off a cliff this season with career lows in almost every category possible. He basically had one game all season where he looked like the McCoy of old. Given that the Bills should be turning over their roster it’s probably best for both sides to move on. McCoy will likely get a look from a playoff type team for a few million in free agency.
25 NFL stars who could be cut during the 2019 offseason – USA Today
22. LeSean McCoy, RB Bills ($6.4 million) — McCoy remains the Bills’ only offensive weapon but his production is in decline and he’s over 30. If it’s not time to move on just yet, we’re getting awfully close.
Debunking myths about Carson Wentz – BGN
Myth No. 1: “The offense just functioned much better with Nick at quarterback.” The Reality: Actually, the defense did. The Eagles averaged 22.9 points per game this year with Wentz at quarterback and 22.1 points per game with Foles at QB. The defense was another story. During the 11 games Wentz played, the defense allowed 23.3 points per game. During the seven games Foles started, the defense allowed 18.1 points per game.
Bring Back Brandon? – Iggles Blitz
The real key to this situation will be trying to figure out how good Graham will be over the next couple of seasons. His numbers were down in 2018, but Graham remains a disruptive player. He’s just not a guy who is going to take over a game. Graham gets regular pressure, but he won’t pile up sacks. The Eagles will study his player tracking data. They’ll have an idea of whether he’s started to decline or is holding steady. If I’m guessing, Graham ends up elsewhere. He feels like the type of player (respected veteran, Super Bowl hero) that some other team will overpay for. As much as it would pain me to see Graham playing for another team, letting him go is probably the right move.
Eagles Mailbag: Still confident Carson Wentz will return to form? – NBCSP
I’ll start this by saying I think the Eagles don’t move on from Jason Peters this season. Yes, he has a big salary and he struggled to stay healthy in 2018, but I don’t think the other options are as enticing. As for moving Lane Johnson to left tackle, I suppose that’s an option, but I think it was telling that they didn’t do that for the second half of the 2017 season when Peters went down. They like Johnson at right tackle; it’s where he’s become a Pro Bowler and where he faces some of the top edge rushers in the NFL. I think there’s a very good chance they draft an offensive tackle with one of their first three picks. Bringing in a tackle in free agency is a little harder because teams aren’t normally willing to let them walk, so to get one, you have to overpay. Think Nate Solder with the Giants. It’s possible, but more cost effective to draft one.
Elijah Holyfield Is The Real Deal – The Draft Network
Is Georgia RBU? After producing the likes of Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel in recent years, the Bulldogs 2018 tandem of D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield were the only duo of the aforementioned names to both eclipse 1,000 yards in the same season. While we have to wait until next year for Swift to be draft-eligible, Holyfield is part of the 2019 class and its time he’s mentioned as one of the top backs in the class. A four-star recruit, Elijah is the son of former cruiserweight and heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield. Yea, that Holyfield who handed Iron Mike Tyson consecutive losses after previously boasting a professional record of 45-1. Evander is the only boxer in history to win undisputed championships in two weight classes and the only four-time world heavyweight champion. Like Evander, Elijah is the real deal.
From His Hollywood Haven, Julian Edelman Reflects on LIII MVP, His Path and Being a Perfect Patriot – FMIA
It’s late Saturday morning six days after the greatest football day of Julian Edelman’s life, and you can feel L.A. here in his West Coast residence. Through a broad window on the second floor of Edelman’s bright and art nouveau home off Sunset Boulevard, a billboard a few blocks above traffic to the south screams an ad for Sunday’s Grammy Awards. Apt. Edelman would be a Grammys presenter. It’s pretty unbelievable, Edelman being a beautiful person in Hollywood right now, on the red carpet with Drake and Lady Gaga.
